Back Orders - A Better Way?

    Hi all,

Is there anyway of stream lining the back order sysytem? We're looking to use it but there seems to be way many "steps" inbetween receiving the sale, creating back orders and then completing the combined order. Also when a back order is created and the stock comes in does actinic detect this or will it happily let an item stay on backorder even if there is stock available?

Sorry for sounding vauge, ultimatly just want a quick and easy way of proccesing backorders but at the momentent actinic doesnt seem to be either

    Many Thanks
    Liam

    ... heresy indeed ;-)

Backorders are really brand new orders with links to the original order. Actinic doesn't flag them up when new stock arrives but they will be in pending still waiting to be processed the best approach is to treat them like a brand new order.

Thanks for the reply! Sorry for all the typos, probably not the easist of posts to read :-(

If an item ends up on backorder assume the stock qty goes in to a negative number? If so wondering if there is anyway a small access program could link this field to the qty shiped/ordered field and automaticly flag the items up when the stock qty becomes a postive number?

      Many Thanks

You can go to 'Edit | Find Ordered Products' within Actinic (you must be looking at the 'Orders' screen) to find all orders that contain a particular order line. That may help automate it a bit.

Your 'small' access program could have a new report added to it that highlights backordered orders that contain items that are now in stock, it would be a simple report to write - or you could use a custom report in Actinic to do the same.

I don't think that stock levels are decremented when you backorder an item BTW, I think that they remain 'sold'. I might be wrong though.

            Hi Jan,

Not sure that our access program is small but it is perfectly formed, lol! Think the report is better of in access as the other people in the office will be able to use it as well, will email you to talk about it further.

            Cheers
            Liam

That's a much better description of it - might be libellous mind you! :-)
