Backing up local copy of wedsite

After spending all day yesterday rebuilding my website from scratch can someone please explain the best way to backup the new site?
I failed to restore the previous site to my new PC tried copying site1 directory didnt work, tried imorting site,didnt work,everytime i updated my live site it purged all but 6-8 lines of the cgi code?
The cdr wasn't set to read only?
anyone else had a similar problem?

Use the Actinic snapshot facility.

This is the full backup at File. Snapshot.

You can then make a snapshot of your site and also re import it.
