    Upgrading information

    Hi,

I am a little confused with the upgrade process, in the past whenever I wanted to upgrade my clients I would upgrade my copy of developer then upgrade their copy of order manager. This is all well and good but when you have to send upgrade patches to 40 - 50 clients every time an upgrade is issued it becomes a nightmare!

The way it works here is that we maintain the catalog (i.e. update their shops) and the client downloads their orders via OM.

My question is: do I need to upgrade their version of OM when I upgrade to a newer version of developer? Will they still be able to download orders from a site which is a newer version?

At the moment this is the case. Sorry about that.

One thing which is worth checking is whether they can be on a higher version than you (i.e. they are on 6.1.4 and you are on 6.1.3) and still download the orders. It may be worth installing a 6.1.4 Order Manager on another PC in your office and testing this.

If it works, then you can get all your Order Managers upgraded before you update your Developer.

v7 is being tested at the moment, with a view to releasing it in the next few months (I'm afraid I cannot be any more specific than that).

v7 will upgrade between minor versions better than v6 does. For example, you will be able to have all your customers of different versions of 7.0.x. You will only need to upgrade everyone if you want to go up to 7.1.x.
