Oh My God, urgent help please

Hello All,

If I ever needed the advice of this Forum it is now

I have just performed a site snapshot and transferred the whole site to my desktop, everything went well until I realised that all of my 1600 edited images were originally stored in C:\Documents and Settings\ and now on the new machine they are in F:\Documents and settings !!

Obviously this means that an offline preview shows none of my images because Actinic is looking for c drive and not f drive.

Somebody please tell me that im not going to have to manually move / edit each of my 1600 images

I cannot rename the drives on the new machine but may be able to rename it on the old machine ?

The only sensible thing to do seems to me to move the images from the F drive to the C drive.

Or edit the access database to change the path name from C to F

If you have Access 2000 (onwards) you can simply replace all occurrences of C:\ with F:\.

First copy ActinicCatalog.mdb (from Site1) somewhere safe just in case. Now open ActinicCatalog.mdb in Access and open the Product table. Click the column heading Image FileName (this should select the entire column). Leave it highlighted and from the Edit menu choose Replace. Up should pop a Find and Replace dialogue box.

In Find What put C:\

In Replace With put F:\

In Match select Start of Field

In Search select All

Leave other settings on their defaults and click Replace All.

That's it.

Made a backup of the database file and performed the changes to these columns - Image Filename, sExtendedinfoimage and section images.

All sorted and I can now run from my desktop

My only worry is having these drive settings :

F = System drive (local disk)
C = Storage 1
G = Storage 2

The desktop serves as a video / audio editing suite and im using the full Adobe video set with scratch disks set up as C and G, which is why I was too scared to change drive letters. I have been informed that having the system drive as C:\ should only be an issue with win9x OS's, and NT based OS's should not really have a preference. I suppose only time will tell.

This is a great Forum and I would be lost without it.

p.s. my earlier thread where I stated a problem opening the database was due to the fact that I only have a 'lite' version of access on my laptop, I performed the changes on someone elses pc with the full xp office suite.

If you keep your Actinic related images in a sub-folder of Site1 (say Images) then you won't need full path name.

I.e. instead of "C:\......\" myimage.jpg you would have "Images\myimage.jpg".

Then you could move Actinic to any system without problems as it would use a relative path name to locate the images.

Hi All, I have a similar issue with Actinic. I have changed the drive that Actinic is resident on (From C:\ProgramFiles\Actinic 7 to D:\ProgramFiles\Actinic 7). I have looked at the database and there are three different tables that track the path. One is called FileList, and has the path as C%3a%5cProgram%20Files%5cActinic%20v7%5cSites%5cMoreThanAGift%5csmc%5fcd%5c34620%2ejpg which I am assuming is the absolute path to one of the images from the looks of it.

I have all the images as images\imagename.jpg in the database so what are those paths for and should I change the C%3a%5c to D%3a%5c? I understand that the values %3a %5c represent acsii codes for :\ where are these paths used and will it make a difference if I just leave them alone.

Hi There,

If the images in the Database show images\imagename.jpg without specifying a Drive then I would suggest you leave them alone. Check in your Site1 folder (C:\Program Files\Actinic vX\Sites\Site1.. ) if the Images Folder exists there.

The path to the image you described needs to be changed if you intend to move the image over to the D: drive.

You may have some images specified in Advanced / Additional Files. That might account for that list of full pathnames.

Thank you for the reply, yes I do have some additional files listed. So I guess I should change the references to the C: to D: just to be on the safe side?
