    crashing on upload

    Hi all,

my software keeps crashing trying to update the site.

It's the first time since it's been upgraded from V4 to V6. I'm a bit worried now, bcause part of the live site is updated.

Do you think I can delete the contents of the acatalog fodler for what would be a fresh site. Although I'm a bit concerned about the orders.

Perhaps it's the several years of orders that has created so many files in that folder and is causing the software problem?

Any advice / ideas would be welcome. (exluding crying)

    thank you

What exactly happens when you try to update - do you get any error messages?

What happens when you run a test in advanced network settings?

What happens if you do an offline site preview?

It had been freezing and "not responding", as task manager tells me.

I've left it a few minutes in case it was doing some complex processing, but it hadn't taken so long when I uploaded it to the test folder.

The reason I've got a problem is that I stupidly didn't think to specify a new cgi-bin and pointed the test one to the same bin as the live version of the shop. So, much for testing.

I despaired a little then thought to do the usual. That being, delete the contents of temp and restart. It seems to have done the trick. Although it is slow and I darn’s have any other applications running on the ancient machine I'm working with.

Would you know if the *.occ files are orders, and if they ever get cleared? As there are about 4000 files in the shop I've inherited here.

Your V4 shop should still be working on your PC - so I would suggest that the first thing you do is refresh your website from there to get your shop up and running again.

Then set up a test area and test your site in that.

The .occ files are psp payment files I think, they are usually downloaded with orders.

When you get back to testing the V6 site can you tell me what happens when you do an offline preview and what happens if you run a test in advanced network settings, also at what stage in the upload process does Actinic freeze? What version of Actinic are you using (the full string from the about box).

        Cheers,

          thank you for your advice.

the only error i get on testing is concerning the mail server. I get the following error, although these are the same settings from the previous version and as far as I know is correct:

"The computer you specified as your mail server is not a valid mail (SMTP) server. Check the computer name or address and try again. If it fails again, then it is possible, you were locked out by a firewall program, or you don't have network connection to this server."

It had been hanging at either purging old files or uploading images.

The version we're using is 6.1.3.0.0.0.DHBA

There is an option to do a manual upload in Actinic, you could try generating scripts and files and then following the instructions that tell you how to copy the files to your site manually.

I would try de-selecting all your email functionality in the store (the two mail-related checkboxes in 'Business Settings | Ordering', any customer accounts that have emails sent to the account contacts/buyers) and then remove the SMTP server value from 'Advanced | Network Setup'. Then try the test again.

See if you get any errors.

If not, try changing the 'CGI script ID number' to a different number and then try a 'Web | Refresh Website'.

If you want to do a test upload

              1) Change the 'Catalog URL' from http://your.URL/acatalog/ to http://your.URL/test/acatalog/

              2) Change the 'Web Site URL' from http://your.URL/ to http://your.URL/test/

              3) Change the 'path from cgi-bin to acatalog directory' from ../whatever/acatalog/ to ../whatever/test/acatalog/

              4) Use a different CGI script ID number

              5) For all your top-level sections, other than one of your choosing, select 'Hide on Web Site'. This will cut down the amount of stuff that uploads.

I experience this error message quite often when setting up new test areas. I ignore it as all email functions work correctly.

thank you all for your advice.

I seem to have got it all working well enough so far. I'm sure there'll be many more hick-ups along the way.
