Migrating Business 6.1.3 to new server ?'s

I have the lovely task of migrating an actinic powered store.
The site is currently maintained on one Windows 2000 PC and orders are downloaded to another 2000 pc. I have exported a snapshot from the maintenance pc and imported it into a fresh install on a new laptop bought specifically for maintaining the site.
The new server is now live and I have successfully uploaded actinic to it. To enable me to test the new site is working before changing dns settings I have changed the host file on the laptop so I see the new server when viewing the sites url.

I've noticed when some images were being uploaded it threw up and error message saying the CGI script found & characters, I clicked ignore thinking they would be uploaded anyway but they weren't so without going in and renaming all these how can I get Actinic to upload images with &'s in the filename? On the current server setup it doesn't throw up this error so maybe the perl setup on the new server is providing Actinic with more functionality?

When putting a test order through I notice it has reverted back to the order number 20000001 is there any way to keep the current number we are upto on the current site? Or is this info kept in the orders pc? Is there a workaround?

We have found that actinic generated emails both to us and the customer do not get delivered sometimes. Would modifiying Actinic to use sendmail instead of SMTP improve things?

    Thanks
    Steve

There are tools in Actinic / Help / Troubleshooting to let you do this.

It could be a different version of Perl that does not like '&' symbols. You are going to have to change all those I'm afraid to limit your images filenames to alphanumeric characters and underscores '_'.

It can't do any harm. As the problem is intermittent it could be the SMTP server refuses to relay some messages (e.g. to hotmail/yahoo addresses). It is worth checking this.

It must have been a difference in windows versions causing this as when I did the upload from the actual maintenance machine it worked fine.

I'll see how the emailing bares up on the new server and if needs look into changing to sendmail.

The site has gone live today on the new server and one thing I've noticed which is a real problem is when you now add something to your shopping basket it does not display the contents yet when you got to view your basket what you have added is there. Any ideas why this would stop working just because of a server move?

          Thanks

Which site is it that has the problem?

The shopping cart worked absolutely fine for me.

I think you may have had a dodgy session file with a wrong setting in it somewhere. That file would have expired by now. If you try it again now it should work OK for you.

This problem was resolved by Actinic email Support this morning. It was because the new hosting companies server time was not set at GMT! I'm so glad it was something simple
                  Thanks anyways.
