Using Norcascade with an image already on website

    Hi there,
This question is really aimed at Norman as he knows exactly how the Norcascade script works but of course if anyone else can help please feel free.

I have searched and read all previous threads regarding Norcascade but could not see this question asked.

This has either never been thought of before or maybe people already know that it cannot be done.
I am going to ask the question anyway.

I have been using Norcascade since Norman wrote it, I find it excellent, very quick and easy for people to use.

I have just redesigned my site and would like to change the way I am using the script.

I know how to use a graphic for the level 1 (instead of root text)

    My question (finally) is:
Can I have the menu called up when a user hovers over an existing graphic on the website?

I would like to have the menu appear when people hover over my 'Sections' navigation button.

I realise that you can use a graphic the same and place it roughly where you want on top of your existing one but is there a cleaner way?
i.e could you put a call link on the graphic when hovering or would this stop the normal use of the button working?

    Any help appreciated.

    Simon

P.S for the benefit of seeing what I mean the web address is: www.bargain-shop-online.co.uk/acatalog/

You want a NorCascade menu to appear when you move over an existing Actinic link and that link to behave as before

    Try this.

    Use Single Root

Set the Single Root URL to wherever that Actinic link would normally take you

Position and size Level1 so that it is above and covers your Actinic generated item.

In Level1 set both Opacity to 0

Now you have an invisible region that when clicked takes you somewhere you define.

Make sure there are no DropShadow events (in Advanced) associated with Level1 (you don't have any but others reading this might).

    Norman

You may still have to consider that Actinic creates a variable number of links depending on which page you are on.

It is possible to get NorCascade to lock to a named anchor, so you could investigate adding a named anchor to the place you want the menu to appear. Info on that is in the menu help files or see www.twinhelix.com

Thank you for your quick response Norman,
I knew you were the man ask.

That works well, the only thing is that he image swap on the original graphic has stopped.
This is probably fixable but is not a problem at the moment.
I would actually have the invisible region over the little orange blob of the graphic and then the rollover image would work and you can still choose the menu. Only thing is that it is not very obvious that the menu exists here.

I'm not sure if I want to go this route or keep the tiny arrow I previously had that followed the screen when scrolling.

What do people prefer? I like the idea of being able to select a new section without needing to scroll to the top of the page again.

Personally I'd make a NorCascade entry that looks like the Actinic links, position it on it's own at the top of your menu without overlapping any Actinic stuff. I'd also make it scrollable as this allows people instant access to it from anywhere.

        Norman

PS I saw my dynamicimages JavaScript in there, but couldn't find a product page using it. Have you one I could look at.

PPS. There's some slightly dodgy HTML in your Actinic links. I saw "<tr> </tr>" in there.

          Hi Norman,
I installed your dynamicimages JavaScript not long after you wrote it and was using on a product for a short while until it went out stock. (I have deleted the product since then).
I have kept the script in place as I intend using it again in the future.
It worked very indeed. I can knock up a test item for you if you want to see it in action although it probably wouldn't be as exciting as the sunglasses.

I am no expert in HTML javascript or anything actually, and all my work is done by research this forum and/or trial and error.

I have put my current template together by myself and would not be surprised if there are some problems with it.

My main concern is the gap at the bottom of the pages when viewing either the bounce page or checkout pages. I cannot for the life of me work out where this is produced.

This might sound cheeky and I realise you have probably got more important things to do than mess about with other peoples sites but would it be possible for me to email a copy of my templates to you for a service as you know whats wrong and whats not. It would probably only take a man of your calibre 5 minutes of viewing in dreamweaver to sort out.

If you are willing to do that you could send your email address through this page:
          http://www.bargain-shop-online.co.uk...ontact_Us.html

          Kind regards

In order to diagnose a site problem you'dhave to send your entire site, not just a few isolated templates.

Sorry, but this would take ages to do and I'd rather spend that time on the entire Forum (and my life).

              Hi Norman,
              No problem, I fully understand.

I have re-done the cascade menu selector.
              www.bargain-shop-online.co.uk

I ended up placing it at the bottom of all other buttons because when you scrolled the page it obviously ran over the other buttons and looked unprofessional (my opinion) also the menu was easily opened by accident and became annoying by covering up other buttons you were intending to use.

I know theres an option to have the menu unfold after you click it but I didn't want that.

I have given the selector 50% opacity but may change this to null.
I think the 50% gives an invitation to put your mouse over to see what happens. (my opinion again).

I thought I found I feature which would allow me to turn the graphic I am using into a rollover image just like the rest of my menu.
PopoutInd: The character (or image - via <IMG> tag) to display when a cell has a sub-menu.
HTML is allowed. To swap on mouseover, set as 'SWAPut text^over text'.
Despite trying out several combinations of ideas I was unable to get this to work. Have I mis-read this or is it possible.

              Thanks

              Simon

I am going to have to move it to the top as suggested as I didn't relise that if your screen is not big enough i.e even you have it set to 800x600 for instance the slector is not shown and you also get an infinate screen when scrolling down.

I have worked out away of stopping it from covering the existing buttons as mention before.
