Components headache

I've been working on my V6 upgrade for too long, and really need to get this all sorted, we've got Sage Link etc and want to have everything on the one system (finally) so as we know how much we have in stock and where it is (rather than in my head) - this in turn should help keep our stock under control as I'm fed up of unearthing a box of something I'd forgotten about from the depths of the stock room (aka spare bedroom)!

Consequently we've given each product a new product reference number, and I'm trying to re-number all my products in Actinic in order to do this - in the past I never really bothered. One of my problems is working out how to use components etc to do this in the neatest most efficient way, and I'm really struggling with this one:
I have a nappy which comes in a choice of white or natural at £7.25 and in Stay Dry at £8.95. Each nappy type has a separate product reference number. With the nappy there is the option of buying a snap in booster (which I try to encourage as they need it) or not having a booster - these boosters are available in white or unbleached at £1.65 each or stay dry at £2. Again each booster also should have a separate product reference as I need to keep them under control (being the sort of product that the odd few you needed for an order lurk under the spare bed *after* you've despatched), and they are also available as separate items without the nappy (but that can be elsewhere as a separate product). In the current set up on V5 I've got them listed like this http://www.twinkleontheweb.co.uk/aca...e_Size_32.html which works fine (and I gets lots ordered with the boosters)but doesn't help my stock control as they are attributes not products (ooh and I've just noticed my instructions aren't there any more, on the clickable link, no-one has commented in the year or so its (not) been there and I've never checked!)

I've been struggling with best way to do this for a whole day and a half and given myself a headache

Hi Miranda.

It is possible to do what you say within Actinic - here are the instructions:

You need to create separate products (with the correct product references and prices) for 'White Nappy', 'Natural Nappy', 'Stay Dry', 'Bleached Booster' and 'Unbleached Booster'. You can tick 'Hide on Web Site' for these products if you do not want them appearing in the store to be bought separately.

Then create one main 'Nappy' product (the reference for this is not important). Create a component within it called 'Nappy' and an attribute within it called 'Type'. Create choices within this attribute called 'White', 'Bleached' and 'Stay Dry'.

Once you have done this, double-click on the component and switch to the 'Permutations' tab and click 'Fill List'. Within the 'Product' field for each row, select the approporate hidden product. You can also select 'Name from Associated Product' if you want (and under 'Pricing' select 'Associated Product Prices')

Then create another component within the product called 'Booster' and do the same - but this time for your two booster choices. Make sure this component is optional.

Good luck. Fiddle around a bit and you will get this working really well.
