    External Link to specific SECTION

    Hi

I am aware that you can link to a specific product via

    http://www.yourURL/cgi/ss000004.pl?P...CODE&NOLOGIN=1

where CODE is the product reference

    but . . .

is it possible to use a similar dynamic call to a 'section'?

    thanks in advance

If it's an external link then just go straight to the html page as those with accounts won't have logged in yet and for everyone else it doesn't matter.

If I update the site the page title changes then the link dies.

The dynamic product link I mentioned calling ss000004.pl ALWAYS finds the product (i.e it's 'dynamic')

          Hi

After a closer look the Advanced User Guide suggestion on page 48 does not do what I want — so to re-iterate :-

I am aware that you can link to a specific product via

          http://www.yourURL/cgi/ss000004.pl?...E&NOLOGIN=1

where CODE is the product reference

This ALWAYS finds the product if it is in the catalogue. [This is a 'dynamic' link.]

I want to be able to make a similar 'dynamic' link to a section.

          Example.

I have a sub-section 'Alchemy' and at present this is found http://www.mandrake-press.com/acatal...lchemy_95.html [this a 'static' link]

Advanced User guide suggests using http://your.URL/cgibin/ss00000x.pl?S...html&NOLOGIN=1 which translated into real life is
          http://www.mandrake-press.com/cgi-bi...html&NOLOGIN=1

Therefore, if the catalog is updated the Alchemy section may get a new file name and thus the static link to a specific file name dies. [I can't see any real point in the suggested method because http://www.mandrake-press.com/acatal...lchemy_95.html is simpler and achieves the same result!]

On the question of external links -- I can see it is possible to link to a search results page by doing a search and copying the address from the browser

i.e. using the term 'alchemy' I get http://www.mandrake-press.com/cgi-bi...=-1&TB=A&SHOP=

I would be grateful for any info on the parameters

          &PR=-1
          &TB=A
          &SHOP=

In V6 you can easily fix the name of a Section. Just double-click a Section in the catalog tree and choose Advanced / Layout / Page Name. From then on Actinic won't change it.
