    visitor tracking

is there a simple way to add tracking to actinic pages (catalog) so that you can track visitors, and obtain reliable stats from referring sites right through to the ordering process?

does anyone know or recommend a package to do this?

You could do worse tan use Live Help (Human Click) It cost approx $50 per month but will give you real time tracking and also let you engage with users when they are on the site.

You need to sign up with www.bravenet.com to get this discounted price. You can try it free for 30 days.

thanks for the links, but they are not what I was looking for

We are about to launch a massive pay-per-click campaign with various PPC engines and I would like to know which PPC is the best ROI.

I need to track each and every visitors movement from page to page. So that we can analise whether people who use PPC engine No.1 are voyeurs or buyers and the same with PPC engine 2.

the referrer.pl script which appears in Site1 appears to be exactly what we want - but the help instructions inform us that it is Business Only

can you customise it so it works in Catalog?

Having looked at the instructions - it seems relatively easy, except the instructions state
            3. Specify path to perl shell in place of "NETQUOTEVAR:PERLPATH"
            4. Specify Actinic package name in place of "NETQUOTEVAR:ACTINICPACKAGE

all well and good, only when I open referrer.pl it also wants Acticic Order Package Name in place of NETQUOTEVAR:ACTINICORDERPACKAGE.

            where can I find this?

As far as I know, it has never been Business only and should work equally well with Actinic Catalog.

The Actinic Order Package is the file ao00000x, so if your CGI Script ID is '1', the top part of referrer.pl will look soemthing like this:

              #!/usr/bin/perl
              # CUSTOMIZE - specify the correct path to perl above by replacing "NETQUOTEVAR:PERLPATH" with the perl path (usually /usr/bin/perl)

require al000001; # CUSTOMIZE put the correct ACTINIC package name on this line (e.g. "al000000")
require ao000001; # CUSTOMIZE put the correct ActinicOrder package name on this line (e.g. "ao000000")

v6 users please note that the referrer script is automatically configured and uploaded in v6.

I've ammende and uploaded the referrer.pl as per your advice, I can't see anything appear in the sUserDefinedGeneral field in the orders field of the database.

The instructions mentions referrer.pl creating a cookie once the customer clicks on a specific type of hyperlink.

Sorry if this is obvious, but can anyone shed any light on creating referrer urls and how this is integrated into referrer.pl in actinic.

The format of a call to the referrer script is as follows:

                  http://www.myserver.com/cgi-bin/referrer.pl?SOURCE=<text string>&DESTINATION=<catalog HTML page>&PATH=<cgi-bin to catalog path>&BASEURL=<catalog directory URL>

                  where:

<text string> is the referrer name (the text string that shows that the person has clicked on this hyperlink.)
<catalog HTML page> is the page in your catalogue you want your customers to arrive at (normally index.html)
<cgi-bin to catalog path> is the path from the cgi-bin directory to the catalog directory (as seen in the Network tab in Preferences)
<catalog directory URL> is the URL of the catalog directory (e.g. http://www.myserver.com/acatalog/)

it doesn't appear to work like that - but then again in the help section it does specifically say Business Only so it may have been disabled for Catalog after all.
