    auto generated email broken! Help!

My customers are not receiving auto-generated emails after placing their orders. and I have the box checked in the business settings.
I also cannot send emails saying the product is ready for dispatch.
Does anyone know what has gone wrong.? Please can you help?

When I try to send the email I get the message:

Actinic Ecommerse received a server error from the web server.
the CGI scripts are not executing properly on the server. Run Web/Configure Web Site Details....to review your website configuration.

However when I do this nothing changes!

Do Advanced / Network Setup / Test and report what messages you get.

      I have just done that and I get a error message saying;
      200 type set to A
I can't figure it out! See below
      Regards Kathryn

error occured while checking the FTP transfer mode -- 200 Type set to A.
      200 PORT command successful.
425 Can't build data connection: Address already in use.
      Try using the other mode.

Wierd. That error is nothing to do with email but is to do with FTP. FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is how Actinic uploads your pages (when you add new products, etc).

This may indicate that either (asuming things used to work recently)

        a) When you did "Run Web/Configure Web Site Details....to review your website configuration" as you mentioned earlier that you've inadvertantly changed something.

        b) Your server isn't working properly. I would try making a test order, and see if thst's OK. It also wouldn't hurt to get in touch with your service provider and check their service status. Either phone their support, or it is often available on their web-site.

PS Could you let us know if this is a new site or one that used to work before? Also post the URL so we can take a peek.

No its not new about 18mths old,
I have run a 'test order' earlier today and noticed that it didn't email me with a confirmation of my purchase, however since I have first posted here I have got into more trouble by trying to refresh the site and now nothing can be ordered from a customer point or uploaded from my side.
Things have got worse in short!

I would get in touch with the server support people to find out if they are having problems.

If they say that their side is working properly, then you should look to your network settings to see if you've changed something.

I had a peek at your site and the shopping cart script isn't there (or has permissions that won't allow it to run). Other scripts ( search, checkout) seem to be working.

You seem to be hosted on Caladan ( www.caladan.net.uk ), and I see from their site that their phone support clocked off at 6pm.

You could post your network settings here so we can see if there's anything obviously wrong. Go to Advanced / Network Setup / Export (this will create a text file with all such info). Copy and paste that info here but make sure you rub out any passwords.

I am very grateful for your time, but have hit a glitch; when I go to advance network set up and try to export I get a box with different files in it and don't know what to do next.

OK. When you get there look at the "Save in:" field and note down what it says. Next go to the File name: field and type in mynetworksettings.txt and click Save.

What you have to do next will depend on the flavour of Windows your using but basically you have to find the file mynetworksettings.txt (you could use the Search command that's off the Start menu) and click it to get it into Notepad where you can copy and paste the info into this Forum. Don't forget to hide those passwords.

Hmmm... They look OK. There's not much else to try except I'd suggest trying the Advanced / Network Test again. If it fails then tick the Use Passive FTP Transfers and retry the test. Let me know what happens.
