    CUSTOMVAR's again

I wanted to use customvar's in a particular section but Chris stated the custom property only appears in the section below the one you type it into?

The problem I have with using the description as an alternative to input details such as Height, Width, Depth, Output and Prices from is that :

    1) I will have to write it all out for each section every time or copy it.
    2) If I ever want to change the layout of the site (although it has taken 2 years to get round to changing the first effort), it will mean I will have to change each section individually rather than just one template.
    3) I don't import any of my products so I have no benefits there either.

There must surely be somewhere in the code that says "the customvars in this section will be shown in the section below" - or something to that effect. Can this not be hacked to say use them in the current section ?

Any help appreciated before I start on a long and painfull process of typing all the details in.

I think you may have misinterpreted what Chris was saying. If you define your CUSTOMVAR at the top level of the catalog then they will be available to you throughout the store.

You then change the productline template to read something like

    Height:CUSTOMVAR:HEIGHT<BR>Weight:CUSTOMVAR:WEIGHT etc,

Then you can define these values for each product

The problem I have is that each section needs a different value for the customvar.

Each section only has one product beneath it, and the customvar's need to be displayed in that section to relate to the product. i.e

I have a section for woodburning stoves - beneath this I have a number of 'manufacturers' - then below this I have a section for each stove, with one product in each section.

Therefore to display the info I want, I would have to place it in the 'manufacturers' level, so that is appears in the product section - however the info is diffent for all the sections below, so this will not work.

What I need is a script to place the customvar's in the section where they are actually typed in.

This is how the customvar works. You will reference the CUSTOMVAR in your template only once.

Then in either you section dialog box (Advanced) Properties tab or the product Prperties tab you will have the different values that will be placed where the customvar is defined.

If you want give me a call as I am still not sure what you are trying to do.
