Multiple product choices - from an Actinic newbie

I have a set of products with a primary choice which affects price and then, for each price variant, the same choices in terms of different colours and sizes.

Each price/colour/size variant has a different stock code. The supplier issues an Excel spreadsheet each day with stock availability on it.

While fairly simple to generate with components and attributes with drop down boxes, what is the simplest, most elegant way to implement this so that the purchaser has an instant indication of whether their chosen combination is available.

Apologies in advance if this is a dumb question but it is Friday afternoon.

if you search around in the forum you will find this has been answered.

but just to get you started actinic does not do stock control on components, nor does it allow unique ref nos.
