curves theme - how to add cart nav buttons and cart contents to left nav bar

We're using curves as our theme in 6.1.4 - but want to add the cart navigation buttons, simple search and cart contents to the left side of all brochure pages - pasting the code from the Act_Primary to the Act_BrochurePrimary displays the buttons, but links on them do not work, and the simple search and cart content appear as NETQUOTEVARs in the preview - it is possible to add these to brochure pages?

You've got the right idea with copying and pasting, but you need to copy and paste the fully-generated code from a live current store page into your brochure overall layout template.
