    Actinic email failure

    The error was:
58323joebloggs@btinternet.comError returned from SMTP server (4: Recipient Not Authorised [recipient rejected due to no authorised destination groups]

I have checked my smtp settings and they are fine, also received 2 test emails from my shop.
The numbers 58323 should not really be in front of the email address should they ?

Not a good start for my website launch at all

    Mick

p.s. everything was fine until I updated to 6.1.4
    Kind regards,

    Michael

Solution provided but still not working

Actinic support have informed me this problem is due to btinternet blocking all smtp traffic ! After speaking to bt they agreed to allow me to use smtp in the correct fashion and made some changes, unfortuantely I still cannot send email from actinic.

All in all a great start to my new business......not.

It is not just BT Internet. We get the same problem with our ISP too.... who *does* allow posting to their SMTP server from our different domain names. We get exactly the same error message from Actinic.

You could try using Norman Rouxel's 'sendmail' patch to bypass the SMTP server. It requires the 'Mailer' Perl module to be installed on your server - but that is quite common.

The details are right at the bottom of http://www.rouxel.cwc.net/actinicstuff.html

            Chris.

I'm keeping those patches on http://www.drillpine.biz/actinicstuff/index.html nowadays.

I'll get around to redirecting the old account real soon now.

              Thanks for the link Norman.
However, im not very happy at BT changing the service I signed up for, I have been on the phone to customer services and they have assured me that my smtp is useable as they have applied a special 'unblock' rule ?

Any idea why it still won't work ?

              Many thanks

I have just sent myself 3 test emails from Actinic and they have all arrived ok, but I still cannot send Actinic order confirmation emails to my customers, surely this is a problem with the Actinic settings ?

                Mick

                  Yes and No.

Even though BT may have 'unblocked' smtp, the chances are that they require SMTP authentication which Actinic does not support at present.

                    No...

I happen to know that the SMTP mail dateway :
mail.btinternet.com does not require SMTP authentication.

                    I have the same problem.

My ISP does not require SMTP authentication either.
I post regularly "from" several different domain names through their SMTP server.

But from within Actinic... it is impossible.

Have you tried placing the word "localhost" without the quotes into the SMTP server address of the Network Setup dialog?

Give it a go, insert it and then update the site and see how you get on with that.

BTW: With regards to SMTP being blocked. A lot of ISPs are blocking smtp that does not go through its own SMTP server or gateway server, but in many cases if your SMTP service is an authenticated one, i.e. username and password "My Server Requires Authentication" then it seems to work ok, whereas POPb4SMTP authentication is more and more getting blocked it seems.

Hope this sheds some light on it.

                        update

After several phone calls this morning I have discovered that there are only 2 options for me:

Install Normans perl patch - hosting company are not sure it will work though.

Send a grovelling email to abuse@btconnect.com to ask for password verification to be lifted.

I will try the email option first.

                        Thanks for the replies,
