Manually hiding a section from the search

I am adding a new section to my shop which I want to hide from the rest of the shop, I can easily hide the section from people navigating around the shop the only problem is the search.

I know it's not possible to hide sections or products from the search (V7 ?) but would it be possible to do it manually:

Delete the section I want to hide and upload, so that my deleted section does not appear in the search.

Copy some search files off my server. (Which files ?)

Undelete the section I deleted and upload, so that my section now appears in the search.

Manually upload the search files to my server so that the search is in the state before my last upload i.e. the section I want to hide does not appear in the search.

Would this work ? and what files would I need to copy off the server ?

I know I would have to upload the files each time I uploaded.

    Thanks

The file you would need to remove/manually upload is 'oldtext.fil'. Trouble is, I don't know whether Actinic will complain if it is no longer 'in synch' with the file on the site.

Let us know how you get on.

I was unable to copy the 'oldtext.fil' file off the server, only delete it because of the permissions, but I have found away around it and it appears to be working:

Delete the section to be hidden from the search.
      Upload the site.
Copy the 'newtext.fil' file out of the local 'Site1' directory to somewhere safe.
Un-delete the section to be hidden from the search.
      Upload the site.
FTP into the site and delete the 'oldtext.fil' file.
Upload the 'newtext.fil' file (previously copied somewhere safe) using FTP and rename it 'oldtext.fil'.
Set permissions on 'oldtext.fil' to 664. (is that the right permission ?)

The above procedure appears to be working, the only problem is that it has to be done every time the site is updated.

That would do it. Well done. I had forgotten about all the name changing on the *.fil files.
