Search engines not picking up site anymore

    Hi,
we recently had to change servers for our site www.bookbasket.co.uk and updated actinic as well as the templates. since then we've had a notable decline in sales.
one reason seems to be that search engines were picking up the old site at www.zencatalog.com/geminipublic when i search for specific words such as "troika ceramics cornwall book" but not the new one. its been a few weeks now and google picks up the new site if i search for "bookbasket" but not anything more specific.
the old website was viewed through a frame at bookbasket.co.uk but hosted elsewhere, so we kept the frame which now shows www.bookbasket.co.uk/acatalog/index.htm, but could this cause problems?
    any help would be appreciated,
    stephen johnson

This tends to happen when you have changed servers or redeveloped the site.

In my experience it all sorted itself out after the next Google crawl

It should sort itself out after a while, but it may take a month or two before you get back to your previous position.

There are two very good reasons you should try and avoid changing url's if you can help:

      1. All your links and directory listings point to the old domain.

      2. Google (and possibly other search engines) are rumoured to be using a 'sandbox' technique that only gives new sites their proper position after a few months. The intention, apparently, is to prevent spammers from abusing the system with disposable sites that use spammy techniques.

One way around this is to set up permanent redirects on the old domains pages that redirect vistors to the new pages. Your ISP should be able to help you do this.
