can someone please tell me in simple steps how to put up one digital download, no other options just one product as a download.

It really should be as simple as adding a product to the catalog and then enabling it for download.
i.e. create your product as you would normally as a regular product, check that in that setup you can order the product as you require it, then change its delivery to digital and that, and then test that.
It should not be any more difficult than that and should work fine.
