I believe it is QB 2002 or QB Pro, not sure about QB 2003 or whether that is the Pro version or not - sorry.

Actinic Link for QuickBooks works with QuickBooks Pro 2002, 2003 and 2004 and Premier 2002, 2003 and 2004.

          quickbooks on a different machine

i have downloaded v7 and wish to use the website building software on my computer, and my business parter would use the quickbooks software installed on her computer...

she would upload all new products and customers via quickbooks, and i would maintain the website here at my computer... can we use the software this way?

also, can she run the website building software from her computer as well? say i have to go on vacation for two weeks, can she also run the updating from her computer?

          thanks in advance

          i downloaded the BUSINESS software

Afraid you would not be able to have 2 different computers maintaining the same Actinic site, i.e. uploading of content and changes to the site as the development machine holds all of the source information which is used to create the destination site.

You can have 1 machine conducting development/maintenance of the site and another conducting order downloads and fullfilment though, but not both conducting maintenance.

            Hope this helps.

              quickbooks

so tell me if i'm right or wrong

she would use the actinic quickbooks software to load products and qty's available from her quickbooks database to the website...

i would download that new information to my computer to setup new pages for them and put them in the right categories to be seen on the web...

afraid not - she can not load the products via quickbooks into the Actinic software via link on her machine and then you be able to conduct tidying up ect on your machine...

Only one machine can conduct maintenance of an Actinic site, whether that be manual inputs to the software or from imports from other applications such as Link etc as everything is contained within Access Dbs within the maintenance machine and not online etc.

                Sorry.

In order to connect all the inventory items and product information between Actinic and Quickbooks a merchant must run quickbooks and Actinic on the same PC. Link connect the Quickbooks.qbf file with Actiniccatalog.mdb file to exchange data.

That been said a designer can create products in Actinic (working from a seperate machine) and load them to the website. When a "new" product is ordered online the order is processed down to the merchants PC. If the item is "new" and does not macth an item in quickbooks Actinic link will create a new product when the order is transfered from teh Actinic merchant cleint to Quickbooks.

You can not maintain inventory with the above configuration but it does work.

                  Hope this helps.

okay, so it seems as though i misunderstood the program...

QB links to the Actinic software via the computer, and then to the online store from Actinic...

Sure Solutions informed me that i could have my client load Actinic on her computer... she could load the products from QB into Actinic, then take a "snap shot" of the site... send it to me, and i could work the design and categories from that new "snap shot"

has anyone here done this before with success??

Using Snapshots yes it can be done that way.

i.e. she does what ever she needs to do at her machine and once she is fully completed, she then creates an up to date snapshot of the site and sends that to you, which you then import and do what you need to do.

Once you are done, you create a new snapshot of the entire site as changed by you and email that back to her, which she then imports back into her site..

                      Things to watch out for:

                      1. Make sure the entire (source) site sits within the site1 or named folder within the actinic ecommerce / sites folder. This way you get all of the files including images (which you will need to be able to do seamless imports and exports of snapshots).

                      2. She must not do anything at her machine after sending you the snapshot and must wait for you to send the amended snapshot back to her, otherwise upon importing your snapshot, will overwrite her changes she made, whilst you was doing your bit.

                      Hope that explains it all.
