Extended Info Pages and Search Engines

Hi

Do you have to do anything special to get the extended info pages spidered by search engines or do they get read as part of the main product page?

I thought that they would be included in the sitemap or so I have a setting wrong. I have some pages external to Actinic so I manually added them to the sitemap and now they get read OK.

Actinic uses JavaScript links to open these pages so they're not spider friendly (tut tut). See http://community.actinic.com/showthr...&threadid=5145 where I posted a fix.

Hi all,

This looks like the kind of thing we'd like to do, but is there any news on the 'more info' buttons that doesn't use hairy code? We have an image link and more info button for every product, so could change the design|text but would like to keep the more info button if possible.

[edit]: just thought again about this. The 'more info' button we use is an image of our own rather than the standard grey one (check out at www.csbooks.co.uk) so would the change to design|text work for it in the same way that it works for the image link? Just a thought...

Your pages appear to already be using this fix and are working OK with an image as the More Info link.

Hi all again,

I did modify the script after posting last, I tested it and saw that it worked and thought I'd wait till this week to see the results. The 'more info' button has been an image for us since we upgraded to v6 last summer and started using popups, but I've always thought of it as a button not an image which is why I was unsure.

Anyway, long and short of it is that this has worked really well - the hits from the google bot have shot up and now our more info pages are appearing at the top of the results list when searching, whereas previously only the section page would appear. So hits have gone up and we are waiting to see if this will have an effect on orders.

The simple answer to whether anyone would want to use this code for a 'more info' button then might be to use an image for the button, this is in the Advanced User Guide I think.
