    Exporting to Excel

Over the months that I was creating my site I exchanged info between Actinic and Excel with no problems.

Now I have launched my site to the web, the file that is exported by Actinic cannot be read by Excel. I can open it in Notepad but when I try it with Excel I get the message 'Unable to read file'.

Any clues as to what I am doing wrong will be most helpful.

Have just updated to 6.1.4 but has made no difference.

I have a couple of questions:

    1) What are you doing in Actinic to generate the export?

    2) What information do you want to transfer with the exchange?

      Hi Chris,

Thanks for the reply. I have been using Excel to put on bulk numbers of products and then importing the heirarchical file. To make thinks simpler, I have set up the sections in Actinic, exported the file using File | Export to a .csv file. Then I have put the products into the .csv file and reimported it. This process has worked fine until I launched my site to the web.

I have many more products to put on and it is easier to put then on in quantity using a .csv file. However, although Actinic will export a .csv file and I can read the file if I open it with Notepad or Wordpad, Excel wont read it.

      Regards

      David

Are you able to attach one of the faulty Excel files here? It would be good to have a crack at opening it myself. Zip it up using Winzip.

Thanks for looking at this for me Chris. I dont know why the file should not work when the web site is working, unless there is a latent problem there too.

The attached file was exported from Actinic using File | Export and following the wizard.

PS Sorry Chris, it is apparently too big at 132Kb to send.

I have slimmed down the file using Notepad to remove 2,500 products. Hopefully I have started and finished in the right places but Excel will still not read it.

            Cheers

Thanks for taking the time to create the export.

I've managed to open it using Excel by first deleting the details about the brochure pages from the export file (using Notepad).

Thanks Chris, that's done the job. I presume that I need to do that each time I export it and to use the 'update' when I reimport it.

                Cheers
