Inserting the Same Product Multiple Times..

    Hi,

In the Advanced User Guide (new version) there is a section called "Inserting the Same Product Multiple Times" which works exactly as described in that the 'master' product stock level is correctly reduced when the use purchases a 'slave' product of the same type.

In doing so however, Catalog displays an unwanted extra quantity number associated with the slave in the cart and checkout pages which looks something like this (excuse the dashes for spacing):

    DETAILS ------ QUANTITY --- PRICE --- COST
    -------------------------------------------------
    Product A ---------1---------- £1.25 -- £1.25
    (bought online) ----1
    -------------------------------------------------

If I set the component name to <space>, it gets rid of the unwanted "(bought online)" text, but still leaves the extra "1" in the quantity column on every cart/checkout page which will just confuse customers. It looks as if 2 items have been bought toalling £1.25, rather than 1 item costing £1.25 which is what I need to show.

Is there anyway of getting rid of this extra quantity of "1" associated with the new linked component?

Any help will be much appreciated...

I have EXACTLY the same problem, so a solution for this would really help.

As well as the above problem, I have a "Master" product that is referenced using slaves about 50 times.

I was hoping to create a "Master" product that appears in the stock inventory once in isolation. Setting-up "Slaves" that point to the master results in loads of extra stock items, each with their own reference, and a stock count of zero.

Is there any way to stop these zero stock items appearing? I've got so many slaves that they are cluttering up my stock inventory.

For the stock montoring problem you could switch off stock monitoring for your slaves, then print the stock report for only those items with stock monitoring switched on.

With regard to the quantity display problem you could use the option of no order line for main product if all of the components are slaves which would remove the product details.

Thanks Jan, that sounds like it would work, but I can't find any option to do that!

The nearest thing I can find to your description is on the component dialogue of the slave product called 'Component As Separate Order Line', which can only be ticked, or not.

On the main product, the item you describe "the option of no order line for main product" does not appear.

How do I find it? I thoroughly examined every tab for the master (and slave) products, but no such option appears. Is this exclusive to Actinic Developer? I'm only using Catalog.

        Regards...

It's on the component tab in the advanced product options. It will only appear when it is valid, and it is only valid when all of your components have their own order line.

It is a standard feature in Actinic that certain features only appear when available, as a developer of the product I thought that this was a fine idea however as a user of the product I think that is it actually very confusing, it would be far better to grey the items out (if they are available in the current version) so that you can see that they are there and then work out why they are not enabled.

Thanks Jan, that worked. The only different thing from what you said was that to view this option, you must select "Sum of Components Prices" from the "Pricing Model" on the advanced/component tab. This makes the "No order line for main product" appear.

I post this extra info to help anyone who needs to solve this problem.

            Kind regards...
