Hi

I am trying to create a theme with left and right bars, can anyone tell me what format the left and right bar text and titles have to be in and how do you get them to appear.

    Thanks

      Hi

I am looking at smart theme, it says you can edit the right and left bar titles and text in the site defaults settings, but the help has no explanation as to what format the files are in, where to put them or how to get them to appear on the left and right sides.

I've tried creating things in word and paintshop but all I get is the title of the file appearing.

I hope you follow what i am doing!

      Thanks

I am awaiting a key for v7 as my copy has timed out. If I remember correctly Chris Dicken has set up these side bars so you can use the "Marketing Text" fields that are in Actinic under Business Settings > Terms and Conditions >Marketing Text. I will have a closer look when I am e-mailed a key.

have you actually applied the smart theme to catalog yet?

          do this....Design|Themes apply smart theme

then go to Design|options on the site defaults tab in the properties table you have leftbar title leftbar text and the same for right

templates are HTML so you can edit them using the builtin editor Advanced|template manager or use Dreamweaver or notepad

            Hi Jo

I can't find any refernce to these items in the template manager.

When you look at site defaults it says you can use files and display contents of the files, but where and what are they?

It appears as though you are able to create files to be used in these positions on the left and right bars, but I cannot find how to do it, what format they need to be in or where to put them once created.

            Still

go to the Design menu choose options

then on the dialog box that appears go for the tab that says sitedefaults

in the properties table in the middle of the box you have lefttitle, lefttext etc.

Place the text you want in the column called values

                Hi Jo

That does work to a point (it leaves odd characters in the field), but what is the "use file contents" check box for?

I think you can create seperate files containing nice neat designs or tables and get them to show in this position, like a top ten products table or a featured items list, etc.

                still

in which case open act_primary in Dreamweaver, and then you can edit

                  CUSTOMVAR:RIGHTBARTEXT
                  CUSTOMVAR:RIGHTBARTITLE

                  CUSTOMVAR:LEFTBARTITLE
                  CUSTOMVAR:LEFTBARTEXT

replace these var s with what you need

create a customvar, then when you add to its properties make sure you tick the box which says filename

Any chance you could expand on this?

There are lot of different questions here so I shall attempt to deal with them all with the following set of instructions.

I shall base these around the idea of using different types of data in the sidebar boxes in the Smart theme.

Using text in the sidebar boxes

Go to 'Design | Options | Site Defaults' and locate the 'Properties' table. With this table, you will see four rows that have the following values in the 'Property' field:
RIGHTBARTITLE - the title of the box in the right column
RIGHTBARTEXT - the text of the box in the right column
LEFTBARTITLE - the title of the box in the left column
LEFTBARTEXT - the text of the box in the left column
You can edit the text that appears in these places in the design by changing the text within the 'Value' fields for the four rows. You don't need to worry about the 'Is File Name' or 'Use File Contents' fields.
Placing an image in the right sidebar box instead of text

Go to 'Design | Options | Site Defaults' and locate RIGHTBARTEXT row.
Within the 'Value' field, enter the filename of an image you want to appear within the design. This image needs to be in your 'Site1' folder.
Select the 'Is File Name' box.
Next, go to the 'Layouts' tab and click 'Edit' next to the 'Default Overall Layout' field.
Search for CUSTOMVAR:RIGHTBARTEXT and change it to read:
                          <img src="CUSTOMVAR:RIGHTBARTEXT" border="0">
Save your changes and preview the results.
Using the contents of a file in the left sidebar box

Go to 'Design | Options | Site Defaults' and locate LEFTBARTEXT row.
Within the 'Value' field, enter the filename of an file that contains some text you want to include into the sidebar box. This file needs to be in your 'Site1' folder
Select 'Is File Name' and 'Use File Contents'.
Preview to see the results.
Hope that all helps.
