    orders - transfering

    Hi,

We have two computers, one for design and one for order processing.

Recently we have had a office move and had to use one of the machines to take the ordering.

The problem now is both machines arent in sync , both have different orders on them.

How do I import the orders from one machine to another without losing any data?

I understand if I use the Import option that this will give give me the option to update exisiting data?

    Please advise

    Hi Darren,

Sorry but this cannot be done due to the way the order tables are linked (there are four tables involved in the order process (five if using 'Business')).

I know that it has been requested before to have the ability to merge orders so I will add your name to the list.

      So what can we do?

What is the database written in and which files are they?

I find to believe that you cant just export and import the orders from one machine to another. Thought this was quite common

The database is written in an Access-style and is called ActinicCatalog.mdb.

The tables within it that hold the order data are:
        Order
        OrderDetail
        PaymentHistory
        Person

          Hi,

What is the database written in and which files are they?
The 'ActinicCatalog.mdb' file is an Access 2000 database (found in your site folder). The main tables relating to the orders are:

          Order
          OrderDetail
          Person

See this thread for the links between the tables (Jan's posting (6th one)).

The problem is that in both databases you will have OrderSequence numbers starting at 1 and these should be unique. So if you manage to transfer them across you will need to ensure that these fields are updated in the relevant tables.

If you are planning to give this a go then please back-up your databases before doing it and note that if you are working on the db in the site folder (rather than a copy) you will not be able to download any more orders or make any changes to the site until you have completed this, otherwise, if it doesn't work and you reinstate the backup you will lose any changes made.

Also note that Actinic cannot provide support for changes made to the database.

Cant't provide support to the changes within the database?

Ok, I'll send the files into actinic and someone there can change them?

              Hi Darren,

Just to clarify my previous post, the merging of two databases is not possible and has been added to the wish-list again.
