    digital upload and large files

    Our site is http://www.mynds-i.com/acatalog/shop.html

We use digital download, and the product files are quite lareg (30Mb +)

Updating the site can take HOURS (ISDN connection, no broadband)

Is there a method of uploading single digital products rather than re-uploading the whole shop. Often the server breaks such a long connection anyway, which leaves the shop corrupted and we have to start again.

Any suggestions gratefully received, we have much updating to do!

You could just generate the scripts and the HTML and upload these using FTP

Thanks for that. But isn't there an encryption process for the dgitial products. For example, in the 'site1' folder on my pc, the product filename is mmx5_e220_pro.zip whereas on the site it has the encrypted name 19_001096_mmx5_e220_pro.zip.

How do I generate that locally before uploading?

I would suggest uploading it one digital download product at a time. In other words, press 'Delete' on all your digital download products apart from one, and then upload the store. Once it is uploaded, upload the next one, and the next one and so on until the entire store is uploaded.

Also, Actinic should only need to re-upload the digital download files if you do a 'Web | Refresh Website'. For day to day operation it should just upload the latest set of changes you make.

Thanks for the responses. Before I had yours Chris, I worked out this method: re-upload the store with dummy (small) files, note the encrypted name of each that was generated during the upload. Re-name the local 'real' files to the encrypted name, and FTP them to the DD folder, overwriting the dummies.

Part of the problem was trying to do this on and ISDN line with McAfee running - it always failed. With McAfee disabled the upload worked, at about 1 hr 30 mins per file.

I understood that if a new product is added, the store has to be refreshed rather than updated - is this correct?

No. Update is the usual method for a working site. Update only uploads files or pages that have changed since the previous Update or Refresh, thus saving a huge amount of time for dial-up type users.

You only need Refresh if you've a brand new site, or sometimes to fix a site that has been corrupted in some way.

OK, new part to the saga.

I have found a friendly hi-speed connection so can update the site OK.

To test, I put the site into test mode and went through the preocess - all worked perfectly, emails were sent correctly BUT the customer email link to the product didn't work. The message was:

                  "Internal Server Error
The server encoutered an internal error or misconfiguration etc...

Additionally, a 404 not found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request."

Is it significant that the link in the email was extraordinarily long, starting with (path to cgi-bin)/nph-dl000001.pl/mmx51-E-220_pro.zip?DAT=e0...well over 100 characters? Or is this simply the encryption process and to be expected?

                  Thanks for more help.

Found the answer elswhere on the Community i.e.

Change the filename of nph-download.pl, to download.pl
                    Now all working.

Fantastic support through this forum, much appreciated.
