    Larger image in extended information?

As a trial I am trying out version 7. Can anyone please tell this novice how do I get a larger image in the extended info box than that in the main section of the catalog? I'm sure this must be obvious but can't find the info at the moment. My image is the same size and this isn't what I want.

    Thanks

The main image is from the 'General' tab - that's displayed on the main product page. The image used in the extended info page is set in the 'Extended Info' tab below the text for the popup page - these can be two different images so just link a bigger image there

Thanks for your quick reply. I was hoping that there was some way of using the same image but inputting height/width of image to make it bigger. The only height/width I've found is just for the extension box itself.

You could fudge something like that up with JavaScript. But scaling an image up just makes it look blocky and horrible so it's really not worth it.

maybe do the reverse and start with the big image and then scale it down!!

You could always get together all your large images and then run then through a batch converter to make small ones

call the large images L-xxx.jpg and the small ones xxx.jpg and then import the lot using an import file, using excel formula to create a column of file names

Thanks Jo. Unfortunately, the smaller images are already on version 4 I was running.

              Kind regards, Carole

You could make the current images on your site the large ones for use in the pop-up window and resize them down for use in the cart. Depends if you want a larger than you have image

                  Larger image in extended information

We use Photodraw to manipulate images. Open your existing standard size image in Photodraw, then create a new image template at the size you want, and cut and paste your standard image into this template and make the image fit the frame you have created. Then save the file with a name that you can easily identify as the info image. We created a separate folder within Site 1 called Additional Info and saved all the amended files to that folder, with a different name from the original eg "file.jpg" became "infofile.jpg"

Sorry!! Ishould have added that if you dont have Photodraw, most other picture editing software will let you do something similar.

By using the same image at two different sizes there are two considerations:

                      a) you have a large image which you scale down with javascript - this causes the visitor to have to download a physically large image when browsing the product page - this isn't ideal because it's going to cost you in bandwidth and users will have to wait for slow pages to load

                      b) you have a small image which you scale up on the extended info pages - this causes the problem of havign stretched images and therefore mean a lack in clarity on the image.

You should ideally have two copies - a small optimised image for the product page and then a less optimised larger image on the popup. As far as changing things over from a previus version of catalog - you make your smaller images the name of the old image for the main product then alter all the extended info pages to use the larger image.
