    importing an .xls

    Hi,

I've had a look at the help section but am struggling. Has anyone managed to import a spread sheet into a new catergory in actinic?

I know you have to have it set up in a certain way but can't grasp it. Could someone who has done it successfully send me an example of their spreadsheet and any pointers?

    Email admin@easygolf.co.uk

    Thanks in advance : - )

    Hi Jon

You can find an example import import file (flat import file) in your actinic program folder, under your site folder (normally called Site1) called SampleFlatImportFile.csv.

If you have a look at this in Excel, you will see the layout used for these import files, they need to be saved as a coma delimted file (.csv) to be imported into Actinic.

    Hope that helps

If you are using components and attributes, you should use the Hierarchical export and import instead of the flat file.
Start with an export from your existing site, then open this with excel.
The file must have a header row for each type of object in the file (Header:Section, header:Product, header:Attribute, Header:Component etc.) This defines the contents of each column for that type of object

If you want to add additional components to an existing product, you will have the following rows after the headers:
      Section
      Product
      Component
      Component (new 1)
      Component (new 2)
      end section

If you use some of the existing rows from your export file without changing content, it will not update these records when you import.
If you do not include Section....End Section lines from your extracted file, it will leave these sections untouched when you perforn the Update import.

      Hope this helps
