Upgrading from V5 to V7

Hi Everyone
Just got V7.00 and tried to upgrade last night.

All seemed to be going well untill I got to the screen where you have to view the modified templates and manually authorise upgrade (or make changes) to templates that have been modified by th user.

This is where my brain started to hurt - there were so many changes that I found it impossible to know what to accept and what to change.

I decided to accept all suggested changes - and of course my shop then looked nothing like it did before. Images were all over the place and layout had changed a lot.

I then decided to overwrite any suggested changed with the contents of my current HTML files. The shop then looked like it did before, but I am worried that in doing this I will not be able to utilise the new features of v7 - is this assumtion correct ?

I had my "theme" developed by Techno-Web (who were great to deal with) and have amended it a bit since then. I am pretty happy with it and don't want to spend ages re-tweaking, and yet I do want to take advantage of v7.

Any ideads what I can do. I have not contacted Techno-Web yet to ask them if they can upgrade it for me if it is something I can do myself.

Hi Jez,

You are right. If you simply overwrite the upgraded v7 templates with your original v7 ones, that Actinic will most likely not work. As an example, you will not be able to change the shopping mode of your store because the FORMBEGIN/PRODUTFORMBEGIN/PRODUCTQUANTITY variables will not be present in your templates. You will also not have the coupon or discounting functionality available.

Techno Web has made a lot of changes to your templates, and it sounds as if those are the sorts of changes that the Upgrader is unable to automatically handle. Techno Web is probably going to be the people to create you a set of templates for your store that are fully-compatible with version 7.
