    Links absurdly slow

I have just updated some internal links on my site, and while testing them to make sure they link correctly I can't fail to notice that they are absurdly slow.

The pages load fast enough under normal circumstances, so why does an internal link take so long??? What is it doing?

Try Himalayan Green Teas from the 'New Product' section on the left for example (http://www.lowcarbgoodies.co.uk)

The link looks like this in the code -

    4. <A href="http://www.lowcarbgoodies.co.uk/cgi-bin/ss000001.pl?PRODREF=901&ACTINIC_REFERRER=http://www.lowcarbgoodies.co.uk/&NOLOGIN=1"><span class="actxsmall">Himalayan Green Tea</span></A><br>

same setup here, and again probably less than 1 second.

There is a slight lag, and this could well be due to the server load. i.e. at nighttime it could be nice and fast but it could be slower during the day if the server is busy.

If you're not using customer accounts, then you can forget all this linking via CGi scripts and just use straight links to the products. That would avoid any delay due the scripts having to run every time someone clicks on a link.

The format for a straight link is just:

        URL/acatalog/pagename.html#aproductreference

        in this case:

        http://www.lowcarbgoodies.co.uk/low-...inks.html#a901

which is what the CGI script eventually redirects a custoemr to (if not logged in).

          cool

I'll give that a try, it seems much more sensible. I got the scripted version from this board yonks ago when I was first setting up...

Can I ask who you are hosting with?

We are having the same problems - and I suspect that Claranet are part of the problem
