Yey though I walk through the shadow of the actinic...

    Help? Quite a simple question. When a catalog features duplicate products;

When I update the price field or description for the original product, it doesn't update the copy. (I've got hundreds of them to do!!! )

I#ve looked through the adv. guide and can't find the answer?

    Any ideas?

Answers on the back of a five pound note to the usual address?

    Hi There,

<When I update the price field or description for the original product, it doesn't update the copy. (I've got hundreds of them to do!!! )>

When you update the price field does the change reflect over all the duplicates? or, When you update the description does it not update over all the duplicates?

Can you post back on this as soon as possible. If it is the latter it is an item for a wish list, if the former then we will have to look into it.

    Cheers,

      Problem with duplicates

You guessed it, the problem is that the information doesn't update to the duplicates. The price does though.

Could present problems for those that need to edit a lot of information.

A menu is available to find the source component from the duplicate but not vice versa. Therefore finding all the historical duplicates could be tricky especially if there are loads of them.............Like me...aargh!

      - One for the wish list?

      Thanks a lot

Are you sure thats a wish list item. IMHO I would call that a bug

          Product duplicates

Surely this must have been noticed before. Was the product duplicate feature not available in V6?

How difficult would this be to patch now for users like me who have developed numerous product duplicates?

          Hey ho....

I think the description being separately updated may be the intentional behaviour. It's very likely that many people will want to have less (or different) text attched to the duplicate product.

What might be best would be a set of options (as part of each duplicate - and with global defaults) that would decide on whether a duplicate uses its own description, etc, or uses the parent value.

This would thus happily deal with both types of requirements.

              Product Duplicates

I agree this would solve the issue for those wishing to regulate the quantity of information displayed in duplicate products. However at present we don't have the choice.

Also, don't forget that the other problem is that you cannot track all the duplicates from the "root" product once they have been created. Therefore if you have 3000+ products & duplicate regions then this could be very time consuming!

              There are two issues here,

An option to update all fields within a duplicate once applied at the source should be available.

Maybe a patch to allow a right click drop down menu over the "root product" that would take you to duplicates. As well as the existing function that allows you to source the "root product" from the duplicate.

Either way - I could really do with one of these right now.

I've passed all this onto the development team for consideration in a future release. I don't have any short-term solutions for you though other than using the 'Edit | Find' command to quickly find all duplicates of a product in the tree.

Surely the obvious option is to have a "copy this text to duplicates" button somewhere. That way you can update the master, and tell the software to do the hard work.

Using the 'Edit | Find' command only finds the first item..... there is no option to 'find next' - or am I missing something??

I need to be able to track down all duplicates.... is there no decent way to do this?

If you right click on the content tree you should you should see the 'Find Next' option that will do it for you, you can also use the F3 key for the Find Next function.

                      Kind regards,
