    Web Statistics

Can you recommend web analysis software to use with Actinic?

You know, visitor information, search engine spidering etc.

Doesn't necessarily have to be free software.

Would have thought you would have got these with your hosting account under www.domain.tld/stats/ maybe, which should provide you with the basic details that you are after...

http://www.webalizer.com/ seems to be a regular choice of most and can be expanded in information detail by use of its .conf file...

          A good one is Awstats - http://awstats.sourceforge.net

Awstats looks really good Bob but installation and set-up looks hard work. What do you think Bob?

Installation can be a difficult, but our server is a Sun Cobalt and you can get self-install packages for this. I haven't done a manual install of Awstats, but based on other open source apps I have manually installed, they can test your patience.

                I've been using a freebie:

                http://www.xav.com/scripts/axs/

                easy to install
easy to integrate into the Actinic templates

there is a working demo link from the main page quoted above.

What I find annoying is that more and more people block their address, which makes tracking statistics more difficult.

I particularly like to see where our hits are coming from and what route they take thru the site.

                cheers

I had a look at the xav one, looked a bit simplistic to me. The time I looked it did not show the number of hits coming from each referrer, although it did list the referrers as hyperlinks. Handy to know whos getting us most visitors.

AWstats is probably the best stats package:

I've found it to be tricky to install myself but you should be able to get your ISP to install for you for about £30-60. If not then we could host your site for you and set up AWstats as part of the package!
