    Wish List - Shipping

I would like to see the ability to assign simple shipping rates to specific customer groups . . . i.e. we don't charge trade customers if their order is above a minimum order level.

It could be parameter based like 'discounts' i.e.

    Name . . . Based On . . .Trigger . . . Cost

I know there is 'free over' switch for value based shipping but I do not want to apply it to all customers

Ok to using the form in future . . . but I would have thought that posting to the community gives others the chance to express their views and discuss the merits of the various ideas proposed.

Further to your request to use the form I would add that I recently posted a suggestion for the wish list and another member within the forum told me how I might achieve the same result using features that already existed within 'Business'.

Had I merely used the form I would probably be no wiser and still struggling with the problem.

Absolutely - people can use either this forum or use the web form. It just depends on what you want to do. Some people just want to fire off a quick suggestion and then forget about it, whilst others (like yourself) may enjoy a discussion. Feel free to use the 'Any Other Business' forum for posting wish lists.

Could we have a link to this solution, or maybe just an explanation? My problem is very similar: I want to give different customer groups free shipping over group-specific weights.

              Hi Matt

I'm afraid there isn't a solution. It is simply not possible to limit shipping costs by customer group.

While we're on the subject of dynamic shipping charges, we've found a problem within Actinic with regard to whether shipping charges should include VAT or not.

We have been advised by Customs and Excise that shipping charges are subject to VAT based on the contents of an order.
                • If an order has no VAT-able items, you can't charge VAT on your shipping costs.
                • If the majority of an order value is VAT free, you can't charge VAT on your shipping costs.
                • If the majority of an order value is subject to VAT, you must charge VAT on your shipping costs.
                • If all of the order is subject to VAT, you must charge VAT on your shipping costs.

What we need from Actinic, is for the program to be able to analyse the contents of an order and decide whether the shipping cost should include VAT or not.

Now we invoice our orders sepately from Actinic and as such we can adjust the postage charges accordingly, however, I'm sure there are plenty of user who use Actinic for their invoicing and as such this issue will be even more important.

Definitely one for the wish list me thinks.

Setting the tax rate on shipping to 'Pro-Rata' will fix this one for you.

                    Hi Chris,

I think there's a bit of confusion here, Pro Rata will proportionaly alter the tax rate based on the contents of the order, but what we need is a for the postage charge to either have vat included at 17.5% if the majority of the order value is vatable *or* no vat included in the postage charge if the majority of the order value is not vatable.

It needs to be on/off not proportional.

                    i.e.

Example 1 - This order would need the post charge to include VAT

Item 1 (subject to VAT) £10.00
Item 2 (not subject to VAT) £5.00
                    -----------
                    Sub-total £15.00
                    Postage £0.85 *plus.VAT
                    VAT £1.90
                    -----------
                    TOTAL £17.75

                    ===============================================

Example 2 - This order would not need the post charge to include VAT

Item 1 (subject to VAT) £5.00
Item 2 (not subject to VAT) £10.00
                    -----------
                    Sub-total £15.00
                    Postage £1.00 *no VAT
                    VAT £0.88
                    -----------
                    TOTAL £16.88

                    ===============================================

In both of these examples the final postage charge is £1.00, but we need actinic to change whether that amount includes vat based on the order contents.

                      Hi David,

Thankyou for adding an example, i can see where you are going. Yes this is a wishlist item and i will add your example as a part of it as well.

i think shipping is a major feature that need slooking at.

I want to offer free shipping on all orders over £40 but to the UK ONLY, I still want overseas orders to get charged shipping.

Is there still no way to do this? I been caught out lately with an order from Italy that was over £40 and had no shipping added..

                        EEEEK!

                          Hi Mark,

The only way you can achieve this, is to use weights. See the following example thread, Tracey had written.

                            Hi there

Just to add one furthur information regarding this. This is what was written by Management regarding this wishlist item.

Customs and excise tend to give differing advice on this subject. After
numerous previous discussions and reading of the regulations, we believe
that pro-rata is officially acceptable to HMCE and also the correct way of
doing it. The on/off is just a simplification.
and an example was given for a different store:
And different stores make different interpretations, e.g.

Amazon = "All prices shown include VAT (except books, which are zero-rated
for VAT purposes). When a zero-rated VAT item, such as a book, is ordered
together with a fully rated VAT item, such as a video, VAT must also be
charged on the total cost of postage and packing."
                            Kind Regards

I appreciate what your management is saying but they're talking about interpretation of the regulations, but I'm talking about what we've been told specifically by Customs and Excises, and they said that P&P is subject to VAT in the way I mentioned above . . . as such, we'd like to be able to do this in Actinic.

We have a fixed P&P charge and don't want to charge our customers VAT when there is no need . . . which means greater profit for us.

Surely the solution is to add the "on/off" option to the other options.
