    Change Directory Name from /acatalog

    Hi all,

I am about to purchase Actinic Catalog and am running it as a trial firstly. If I purchase this software I would like to know that I could change teh directory name from /acatalog to something like /shop or even run it on a subdomain in the base directory. i.e. shop.domain.com

Can anybody help with this who has done it before as actinic support can't or won't?

    Thanks
    Dan

Another way for an easier usage of /shop instead of /acatalog would be to get your host to not create the acatalog folder and create a symbolic link to the actually created /shop folder.

You will need to ensure that you directly link to the pages within the shop folder as opposed to letting actinic connect you, otherwise it will still show under acatalog (see top links in the bottom linked site which is cgi-bin driven and then central links at the home page), which is fun for search engines as you have double the pages.. eg: www.gadgets2u.com which has acatalog symbolic linked to acatalog folder, so the entire shop will run under the / folder as well as www.gadgets2u.com/acatalog/

... or you could mod_rewrite all requests to /shop to /acatalog (in the same way as a symbolic link would work)

I am afraid that it is my nature to resist being dictated to so I too did not like the acatalog reference.

I got round this in http://www.highlandclans.co.uk by deleting all references to /acatalog in the database as in thread 1549 and generally speaking there are no problems.

However, as always when you play around with a package you get unexpected results in strange places.

Therefore, it can be done, but it may be best to have actalog as the root.

I would love to see actinic put in a table where one could specify paths for the pages and images. I hate having literally thousands of images in with the html pages.

            Regards,

            Niall

              Changing /acatalog folder name

Thanks for all the replies people,

I have read ALL of the replies and have understood ALL of the replies although I think I will go with Chris Dicken's advice on the thread found here as I am sure he must have some inside information.

I actually rent a server or two from EV1 so I will action the changes myself.

For anybody in my shoes, so far I have found; the guys (and gals) at actinic to be pretty helpful, Chris Dicken to be very helpful and you lot on the forum to be very very helpful (and best of all FREE)

I would recommend actinic's stuff to ANYbody who is selling a service or product online. I WILL be purchasing AC (probably best to get everything running first though properly and make these changes before I 'cough' anything up big time) and hope that everything works out as planned with it.

I have another question which I could do with a hand with but I'll stick it in a new thread, please look out for my posts as I will be going through the teething problems over the next month or two.

              Kind Regards
              Dan
