Product Alignment

I know how to align categortys and set them out in tables as i did here:

But can this sort of alignment be done to the main shop homepage? There are no options like those on the sections propertys.

Can this be done by editing the template files?

Try changing the "First Row Column Count" and 'Subsequent Row Column Count" under the heading "Default Location and Arrangment of Section List" in Design|Options|Miscellaneous
