New custom design

hi, i would like to create a new custom design for my site.
I have been using actinic cataloge 6 for the last year and have basic understanding of its templates etc...
I have a new design created in dreamweaver which will hold all the sections links itself in my own custom nav system. I need to bring in the products from actinic and have them in the 'bulk area'.
I am going to upgrade to v7 which i have a trial version of at present.
Should i upgrade my v6 site to 7 then make majour changes to the design. Or create a new v7 design from scratch and link up to a database of products.
I need some really easy steps please in merging a custom design with actinic . All help many thanks!

I have good knowledge of dreamweaver so thats a start !

What I have done in the past is look at the clean layouts and choose one which nearest matches the kind of design I am looking for then in DW shred it to bits to make it look how I want, knowing that all the code that actinic needs has been placed in there ..

I would advise you build the site in version 7 rather than in 6 and importing it.
