    Managing multiple sites

Is there any way under XP Pro to run multiple instances of Actinic so the user does not have to go through the rigmarole of acivating each site when she wants to change between them (about 6 and rising at present)?

Ideally there would be a tab control across the top of the screen so we could just select the site we want to look at.

Also a control to download and print orders for all sites in one go would be great.

    Regards
    Michael

Actinic will only work with one site at a time.

Mole End have several products that can make managing multiple sites easier.

    1) One Stop Automation - this product downloads and processes orders at regular intervals (or when you click a button), you define the processing carried out but it is things like reformatting addresses, autoshipping lines and printing orders. We have a multisite module that will process each of your sites in turn. There is more information and a free trial at the URL below :

    2) One Stop Order Processing (multi-user version) - we have a new version of this product in beta test ATM that has a change site option, using this you can flick between sites very easily and you can also process orders and email customers in batches. You can also use this product to access Actinic from a remote machine so you could install it on several machines and so access your sites that way. If you want to take a look at this send me an email (jan at mole-end.biz) and I will send you details of the beta - I am expecting to release this product this week or next week so although it is still in beta the product is very stable.

We actually use both of these products, automation collect orders, formats addresses and prints the packing lists and then we add payment details and ship orders and email invoices to ourselves for forwarding on to the customer with their software licenses. For our paper site we email the customer to let them know that their paper has been dispatched.

We also have a product that lets you link products in several sites and update all of the your sites (or manage stock levels over all of your sites) with a single click. There are more details of this here :

Aside from Jan's suggestions previous,we have the same problem.
It's the reason I'm running one V6 site and one V7 (upgraded from V5) site rather than 2 x V7.
Would be handy to be able to open 2 of the same version at the same time (I'm always working on both together) and to be able to download/upload together (as it is, I have stock control moles for V6 and V7 doing it instead)
Other that Mole end add-ons, there's not much you can do!

Sorry just me again not Actinic, you can run several instances of Actinic if you use virtual terminals, I have done this using VMWare but you can apparently get this functionality free with Windows 2004 (it is called virtual PC - and can be downloaded from microsoft somewhere). This software basically allows you to make mini pcs on your computer, you then install Actinic into each mini pc and run a site from each one, you can switch between the sessions easily.

The only problem with running many virtual machines is that each of them need a chuck of RAM allocated - this means that to sustain say 4 virtual machines with 256Mb of RAM each, you need > 1Gb of ram along with all the HD space.

I think it would be a good idea to be able to launch multiple Actinics to view different sites - obviously you would never want two copies running the same site! Perhaps this is something that could be added to the wishlist as I'm sure it's not a simple thing to implement
