dodgy looking code

hi one and all,
i am by no means an expert in how the code, html 'stuff' should look like when i click view source on any page of a website, but i do know that mine looks very very messy and untidy compared to other actinic sites and other non actinic sites.
can anyone in the know tell me if this will affect my site in anyway, ie for site listing on search engines, upload speed etc.. is there is anything i can do about it with no major experience in the matter or know any software/ person/ company that could solve it.

Under design options=> miscellaneous there's an option called 'compact html/cgi' that when ticked strips out all LFs, spaces and CRs to make the code slightly more compact.

This also makes it less readable (good when competitors are viewing - bad when trying to debug the code).

You can change it as and when you want to.

yes the compact html is turned on, but i still cant help thinking it all still looks messy.
