Order management issues

1) Why do I need to close an order, make sure it's selected and hit the back order button? Why can't this be done from the shipping page within the order?

2) When I finish an order and close it. Why isn't the next order highlighted? If I am processing 20 orders with another 10 orders with backordered items on them, then it takes a bit of scrolling/searching to find the next order these days.
