    Registering French Domain and Hosting

Looking for a one stop shop for buying a .fr domain and some space to run Actinic Cat V7 on. I see http://www.eurodns.com/ will register the domain, but will not do hosting. Anyone any ideas on this ?

    Thanks,

    Paul

You can host Actinic on any normal webspace as long as you have the requirements, i.e perl, access to cgi-bin. You then just need some secure space which Actinic do themselves. Or you could use other methods such as paypal, HSBC, workpay to do the transactions for you. If you register the domain, you just point either the DNS records to the web host or the www record.

As its a .fr domain, you need to check the requirements needed, i.e you may need to register the domain to a company or person in france.

    Regards

    Darren

From what I have read about the way search engines spider and determine whether or not to display listings as relevant to a country (France in this instance) is that they look for the language as being French or look at the IP address to see if it is within France. Would it not be best practice then to have a .fr domain hosted on a server with a French IP address ?

Anyone any comments/experience on this ?

      Thanks,

      Paul

        french domains ?

I live here in France at the moment (Languedoc) .. I'm not absolutely sure about this .. but I have the vaguest thought that it might actually be a bit more difficult to register a .fr domain.

I am pretty sure someone told me you needed to have a french registered business in order to register a .fr domain.

just a point to watch perhaps?

          http://www.eurodns.com/

are doing registrations (for UK individuals) but I'm not to sure if I trust the setup. Like who actually owns a .fr domain name bought through them. Looks like they have a partner host company in Luxembourg too, their recommending

          www.datacenter.lu

Anyone any views on using that sort of setup or dealt with any of these guys ?

Deregulation of the .fr domains began 11th May apparently.
