‘data truncated’ error and then crashing....

I have managed to make my catalogue not work! Eeek.

What I was doing was copying a long bit of text to the URL field on the link option of a new fragment (fragment properties)

It didn’t like it when I tried to save it, and gave a ‘data truncated’ error and then crashed out on me.

I presumed therefore the link was too long and I could simply kill it and try again. But no….

When I open the catalogue now it has this same ‘data truncated error’ and the fragment with that long damn URL isn’t viewable. However, if I try and add a fragment with the same title as the one I was doing it says can’t have duplicate names. If I then give it a new name and try and preview it crashes out on me.

So now every time I open it now it has the error ‘Data truncated’ and then when I add a new fragment or do anything related to updating the catalogue on-line it crashes… arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I’m obviously going to have to raise a support thing but if anyone has any ideas how I escape from this mess I have created would be gratefully received.

    Many thanks indeed

    Hi there.

Do you have Microsoft Access 2000 or above on your machine? If you do I have an idea!

Within your site folder (will be something like C:\Program Files\Actinic ecommerce V6\Sites\Site1) you will find a file called ActinicCatalog.mdb . Now, firstly make a backup of this file just in case the worst should happen!

Now, close Actinic, then open ActinicCatalog.mdb in Access, if Access asks you to convert it don't. Open the BrochureFragments table and see if you can see the problem URL for your brochure Fragment (note its name in the sFragmentTitle field) in the sLinkedItemID field and remove the text for the problem fragment.

Close Access, reopen Actinic and see if this solves the problem. If it does, got back into the Fragment and see if you can add the URL in. It must be less than 255 characters in length.

    I hope this helps.
