I can't belive it..

Hi one and all, apologies if this seems like a bit of a rant but having just spent the best part of a day configuring my site I am just a little bit annoyed.

I have been attempting to "hide" certain sections from non-registered users, which I have been able to do thanks to the great post on the knowledge base and section in the advanced users guide titled "Preventing Retail Customers from entering certain sections in your store".

I have even worked it out so that I can have personalised sections in the store for different customers, I had intended to use this as a way of building personalised product lists and on-line quotations for my customers.

All is working well, until someone does a SEARCH! How has someone got away with writing an article and an explanation on, and I quote again "Preventing Retail Customers from entering certain sections in your store" if the search facility hapilly ignores this and cracks on displaying all and sundry to whoever happens to be using the search.

I can only presume that Actinic think you will just turn off the Search facility, which is a total pain for me as when a customer asks me to see a product or send a catalogue I simply say "go to my web site and search for X".

But the general rant is that Actinic haven't even put a discalimer in the user guide saying if you do this the section will still be visible to in the search facility.

What a total nightmare and a waist of my time developing the customised areas, and given that I purchased the business edition of version 7 on the recommendation of the Actinic sales person that told me I would be able to create customer specific options I feel well peeved.

I am sure that someone from Actinic will tell me how to resolve this issue in a one line sentance and if that turns out to be true I will happily eat my words and drink litres of humble juice - but until then this is one very unhappy Actinic customer signing off............................

I'm not sure about this but I'd assume the sitemap also shows every page ...

It certainly does, but I can live without a site map. Just can't live without a search option.

Apologies for the confusion. The solution in the Advanced User Guide just hides the section link - not everything.

If you de-select 'Product Visible' for a particular product within a particular price schedule then it will not appear within the search results. I will clarify this the next time I update the Advanced User Guide.

I too have the same query! Except....

I have created my "Act_SectionLinePrivate.html" file with

Code:
<Actinic:SHOWFORPRICESCHEDULE Schedules="2" HTML="<A HREF=NETQUOTEVAR:SECTIONLINK>NETQUOTEVAR:SECTIONNAME</A>"/>

<!-- NETQUOTEVAR:SECTIONIMAGE NETQUOTEVAR:SECTIONTEXT -->

NETQUOTEVAR:NEXT
Now how do I link this file?? Do I have to update any other files to call this file? If not - then how when it is building the section box - does it know when to call this Act_SectionLinePrivate.html?

I presume it needs to be referenced some how, as at the end of the AdvancedGuide section "Preventing Retails Customers from Entering Certian sections" it says that it should be placed at the end of a list of sections?

many thanks

You need to select this file in the 'Section Link Layout' field (in the layout tab) of the section you want to hide.

Thanks for that...

ok I linked to this file via Section Link Layout and it kind of half worked.

In the middle of the webpage where the Sub-sections were displayed the link has now gone for this customer and displays only the section I wanted them to see... BUT

It has not removed the link to this section in the 'Store Sections' side bar.

So in away the customer can still link to this section via the side bar

Example: example

As you can see the link in the centre has gone, but its still there on the left-bar.

I applied the 'Section Link Layout' file to the level at Game Boy - if I had done it one level higher then the Games link would of been missing - which I dont want..

I want some customers to be able to see the X-Box link and some the Game Boy link.

Once again many thanks for your help.

You are talking about the top-level section list. I'm afraid there is no way to individually specify the section link layout templates used for the sections in this list. The only thing I can recommend is removing the automatically-generated list and replacing it with a manually-created list of links which use the <Actinic:ShowForPriceSchedules> tags.

Replace NETQUOTEVAR:TOPLEVELSECTIONSTOP with the manually-generated list. This is in Act_Primary.html.
