    Wishlist: WinXP limited user account

Would it be possible to allow Actinic to run from an XP limited user account?

We are not happy with our order processing clerk having to be logged on to an XP admin account in order to use Actinic. (too much power under the wrong fingertips)

    Hi Eileen

We are looking into this and it may even be changed in 7.0.2 or the following release.

Run on XP with non-power user priviledges

I have installed v7, and set some permissions to enable non- power users and non-administrators to run the software.

We are hoping to use this in a computer lab to teach Uni students, and so would rather they have as little access to the machines as possible, for this reason I have followed an unsophisticated method to get the software to run under non-admin/PU accounts.

The software was installed and run as an administrator, and then the following registry keys were given full access to the "Users" group :

      HKLM\Software\Actinic
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Actinic Catalog v7

Also the Actinic "Program Files" directory was given full access to the "Users" group

And this seems to allow anyone with logon priviledges to that machine to run Actinic and to export and import sites.

Dont know much more than that at this stage so this might not be the perfect solution after all - some more testing will be necessary.

Anyone else done this already and not posted it yet?

At V7.0.3 Actinic changed its use of the registry to hold most details in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Actinic 7 in order to allow it to be run from seveal normal user accounts.

The HKEY_CURRENT_USER branch is only now used to store the selected Site for that particular user.
