One and One hosting - Problems with emails and placing orders on the site

We have a dedicated server with 1and1 and we suffered the 19" delay issue too. Fixed using Norman's patch.

Yes. Norman's sendmail patch works fine. At least for the moment anyway.

Bill seems to have set up his own smtp server on his dedicated server which gives him much control over the setup and configuration and looks like an alternative way of avoiding the problem (at least for those with a dedicated server).

Perhaps I should hang my head and shuffle back into my box!...

I'll take some of the blame here too. I really should have tried to draw out more details from you rather than blowing up in frustration.
