    Microsoft Expressions for design ?

    Hi there,

Just purchased actinic v8 (lite version) and finding my way around -can I use microsoft expressions to edit/change layout or do I have to use DW ?

Just been playing about with expressions and found out I can edit my actininc site on line, change fonts, insert tables etc - am I gonna end up in a big mess if I go down this route ?

    Big mess - YES

You need to edit the layouts not the html files, these are all generated when uploading or previewing. if you do everytime you do an upload changes will be overwritten

You can use it yes but you will need to copy and paste the html code from actinic backwards and forwards. Not a big deal as we all had to do it for a while before the DW extension worked properly.

Although I (and many) are big DW fans, as stated above, you can use any wysiwyg prog to edit your layout files even notepad (not a wysiwyg).

Unsure about MS Expressions, got no opinion as I have never seen it, but if it is as good as front page then RUN AWAYYYYYY!!!!

If the cost of the software is prohibitive at this time then I can wholely recommend NVU. It is free and does a hell of a lot, in line with much of DW V8 IMHO (without the bells and whistles.)

Not forgetting the inline editor as part of the standard Actinic installation in the design tab. As you get more confident with the HTML you will find yourself moving away from the WYSIWYG modes and editing directly inside Actinic for cleaner and quicker code.

By all accounts Expression is a corking piece of software - especially the CSS handling in design mode - and with compliance (no proprietary extensions favoured by the earlier copies of FP)
