    Smart Design left hand navigation

Im using the smart design template and im trying to get it to show just the section name in the left hand navigation instead of all the subsections too

the piece of code which seems to affect it is

    document.write(YahooSections(section_tree))

Does anyone know what it should say?

There are a couple of ways of formatting the list available in site options. The option is call something like 'Top Level Section Link'.

Remove anything to do with Javascript for this list Joanna, it doesn't use the method you were using. You want to get rid of the script tag in the head area and all remnants of the yahoo sections. Then insert the variable i provided and it will work, i do it on every site i build and it never fails i assure you.

Perhaps you could paste the code from the column in which the menu is supposed to sit so we can check it.

If the options in site settings do not change it to what you want, then it's a case of delving into the CSS and styling it yourself.

I've been seriously struggling with the same thing but think I have now got it:

                      What I think I done:

                      1) Follow the instructions in the advanced users manual: How to Only Show Certain Sections in the Top Level Section List

                      2) Remove the code
                      document.write(YahooSections(section_tree))
plus the lines directly above & below it that set up a script

                      3) insert
                      Actinic:Variable Name="TopLevelSectionList"/
without the angled brackets in place of what was in (2)

                      4) Go to the content tree & click on the 1st section you want to appear on the sidebar. In the section details under General change the show section in sidebar variable that you created in (1) to "true"

                      5) repeat (4) for all the sections you want to show in the sidebar

Hopefully this fixes it for you.
