    Hiding sections in Smart layout

    I am trying to hide a section as per the directions on page 51 of the advanced user guide however I cannot seem to get it to work as there is no 'block if' to alter.

    I am using the SMART theme and the Works Best with Smart layout.

    So far I have managed to remove the section from the Section Page but I cannot get it removed from the Smart Left Sidebar.

    Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    Select the section in the content tree and just tick the checkox to 'hide on website' if you just want to hide a section.

      Sorry, I still want the pages to upload so the section can be navigated to with an external link, I just don't want it to appear on the section list in the sidebar.

        You can use the conditional "Block if's" to show and hide content... there are various ways to do this including testing a user defined variable against the section or the section name itself.

          I can't find the appropriate place to place the 'block if'. I have managed to block the section out in the central area but cannot block out the section in the sidebar. Depending on where I place the conditional statement I either lose the sidebar header or the entire box but I cannot limit it to just the section I want to lose.

            Andrew,

            If you post the code around which you are placing the block if, then someone will be able to tell you what is happening.

            Kind regards,

              This is the code that relates to the location I pressume is the correct one for the left sidebar :-

              Works Best with Smart
              -Smart Left Sidebar
              -Javascript Section List in a Box

              <table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" border="0" width="100%">
              <tr>
              <td valign="top" width="8%" bgcolor="<actinic:variable name="Palette2" />"><img src="theme_tab2_left.gif" /></td>
              <td bgcolor="<actinic:variable name="Palette2" />" width="84%" height="20"><span class="boxheading">Store Sections</span></td>
              <td valign="top" width="8%" align="right" bgcolor="<actinic:variable name="Palette2" />"><img src="theme_tab2_right.gif" /></td>
              </tr>
              <tr>
              <td colspan="3" class="thinborder2" style="padding: 3px;">
              <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">
              document.write(YahooSections(section_tree))
              </script>
              </td>
              </tr>
              </table>

              I can't seem to find the correct place to put the 'block if' to restrict the sections showing in the list.

              Any help would be appreciated.

                Use the hide on website option, and then add the page name to additional files so it gets loaded anyway.

                  Thanks, that worked exactly as I wanted it to.

                    Firstly, after a while searching for the right words, my thanks to Bill for giving me the answer. Works a treat, wherever you are now, sir.

                    Secondly, for info, it would seem that in order to adjust/edit the 'hidden' section afterwards one needs to (a) unhide & then edit; (b) upload to create the page on the server (c) hide it again & then (d) upload to hide the section link.

                    If you ever look in, Sir, my best wishes to you Mr. Campbell - you helped me with several things a few years ago.
