I have only ever used the embed characters in description fields, never needed anywhere else. Just checked to make sure i am not going mad, i'm not. Something must be up Bumpsy.

well, I've just tried it to make sure
I wanted to make a certain component name bold...they're not usually
            so I added <strong> tags around it...and it ignored it..until I added the !!< >!! too

            I've attached a screen shot..
            Have I broke it?

I know why that is but i'm buggered if i can think of a way to explain it. If you put tags in there, actinic cannot tell if that is to be a tag or not, so it required the html markers to tell it so for page parsing. Just imagine actinic is a bit thick and needs to be told everything is the easiest way to think of it.

                  that bit, I understand!!

bit pointless asking for "html" for name though really..why not just put "display" name or something?

What you put in that field is surrounded by a html tag. You then confuse it adding your own tags. I'm on actinic's side on this one, especially with you being a nutter.
