Going to far with V8: Copying play.com

I'v been investiating several online stores, the big boys in commerce, to see how they get things done.

You all may recognise the dabs.co.uk dealfinder here:
    http://www.dabs.com/productlist.aspx...248&PageMode=2

    but what about this?
    http://www.skateasylum.co.uk/acatalo...ad-skates.html

but i'v been looking into other mechanisms, that seem to be out of the reach of Actinic, technologically.

Play.com for example, upon adding items to the cart, keeps you on the same page, populates the cart and then creates a popup, to tell you about it. Try adding something to your cart from the front page of http://www.play.com/

how about this then? type some random text into the box before you press add to cart
    http://www.interact-studio.co.uk/aca...multiuser.html

though not complete and some bugs are present, its getting there.

nb: this is not a plug, its an honest tech demo.

Looks good - could do with poping up level with add to cart button - on my screen it looked like nothing happened when I added to cart as the popup was above the top.

try it now, scroll so that its off the top of the page some distance, then add to cart.

bear in mind that it needs to be removed first. actinet cant be added twice.

OK - how about this Actinic checkout implementation:

                      http://www.stinkyinkshop.co.uk/acata...mark_C500.html

                      Add something to cart
                      Uses AJAX.......
(as does drop down nav boxes)

Not my work I hasten to add but I'm sure store owner won't mind me showing off their work!

this looks quite easy to impliment.

and i even know where he stole the icons from.

lovely cart. he needs it to scroll to the top however. that was a great idea. checking out the code i see he's a fan of jquery. another magnificent lib for ajax.

this one uses scriptalicious as well, for the fade effects and the scrolling too. so, prototype was required as a companion.

I can think of many posts here about reducing cart bounce page, omitting bounce page, removing add to cart bounce page etc etc etc

and voila - in one go it solves these problems, and with a nice AJAX web-2.0-alike updating gif
