    Compact Look

    Hi,

I'm trying to redesign my site so that it looks much more compact. I now have so many products (leading upto Xmas) that the current system of displaying products in one column with a full description is just too much.

I've read with great interest the section in the AUG about effectively changing the Extended Info page into the "full description" page. The making the normal page just a cut down description with a thumbnail picture. Just what I want to do!
    BUT
I can't seem to get more than one product column. I've gone to

Settings / Site options / Products

and change the Column Count for Product from 1 to 2 but nothing seems to happen. I still get only one column of products.

I must be doing some very silly or not doing something very simple.
    Currently using "Executive" theme.

    Any advice would be grateful

could be in the product list settings that your column count is set to "1" rather than to the product list column count?

I started on V8.01 I think but not V7 for sure.

I'd seen that post and did check because it sounded exactly like what was going wrong with my site.
It goes on about "Bare Product List" etc and I can't find anything like that in my design.

It's a good call though I wonder if it's doing something simular anyway in V8.
How could I find out / double check?

Sounds possible.... but don't know where this is

"could be in the product list settings that your column count is set to "1" rather than to the product list column count?"

in Settings / Site Options / Product

Count Count for Product = 2 (but thats not working)

Sorry to be so dense - but where is the "product list settings "?

Make sure it is not overridden on the section settings.

            The settings are:-

            SECTION

            Column Count for 1st row.... = 3
Column Count for Section List = 3
Width of Section List = 75%

            PRODUCT

Column Count for Products = 2
Width of Product List = 500

In site settings or on the section itself?

                Eureka

                Eureka,

                thanks Leehack that did it.

Though the site settings were set to 2 Columns - going to each individual section layout it was still showing as 1.

Set these individual section settings to 2 and Eureka it works.
Odd you'd think if you made a "gobal" setting in the site options this would override any other settings? Anyway sorted now.

                Thanks

It has been changed by someone at some stage, it is correct as standard. You really want them all set to 'use parent' so you can globally change things in the future. Hopefully you haven't hard coded '2' into each box.

it would have changed them globally if your section settings had been set to "use parent" (as they would be by default)
The only reason they didn't is because you'd obviously, manually, over-ridden the "use parent" setting to give a column count of 1, at some point.

                    Easily done though
