    Section Sequence keeps changing

Loads of Sections (with Child Sections) all listed in Alphabetical Order. Swapped around if needed by 'shift' and drag.

However there are 2 Sections that keep 'bouncing' to the top, however many times I move them in the Content Tree. Strange because in the Preview Pane, they are positioned at the bottom. I want them somewhere in the middle!

Says on the forum that a certain file/script works out the order of Sections, but I don't want to mess anything up.

    Already purged and compacted.
    Anyone experienced this before?

Added: Uploaded after moving them around again and now they've bounced on their own accord to the bottom!!

Have you sorted this as they are alphabetical now?

Couldn't find a way around it. Two Sections just would not move by shift, drag and drop and kept sitting at the top or the end of the list.

The only way to get the list alphabetical was to literally drag each section one by one into the parent section in alphabetical order. This is getting more and more impractical as the list gets larger, but had to get the website working over the weekend.

Anyway, just did a bit of testing by moving around again. Those two are not the only disobedient sections. Seems to happen to any section for some reason at the moment.

Just uploading site and screenshots, but PC needs a restart. Back in a mo!

Sam, if all you're wanting to do is alphabetise them (as opposed to putting them into a specific order that isn't alphabetical) then Mole End do a catalog sorting tool that does just this.
Might be worth looking into if sorting larger/longer sections is likely to be a problem

          (Just got PC back!)

Yes, I had heard of the Mole End solution but this doesn't resolve an issue if you do want to be more creative with the Section order.

Does anyone know why the Sections will not stay in the order they are put?

          Screenshot:
          veglist.pdf
Shows list is OK in Content tree but not in preview and not online:
          vegonline.pdf

Would be good to see why this is happening in order to resolve?

I'd be very surprised if these problematic sections do not have something different in their settings to the others. To confirm i would create new sections in the correct place and move the products into them and i would also try copying an existing section (one that works) and then renaming it. When you create new sections, make sure they are created in the right place in the first place, there may be some minor bug, that doesn't like the move after it has been created, but personally i have always been able to move what i want to where i want it, so doubt that.

just a quickie to say that I'm having this problem in 9.0.3.
Added 2 new sub-sections to an existing section and, despite putting them both at the bottom, they appeared 2nd and 3rd on the preview.
Rebooting Actinic (and computer..at some point..not sure exactly when they moved) re-ordered them in the content tree and put them 2nd and 3rd to match preview.

shift-dragged them to bottom again and one has stayed there in preview too, one hasn't.
They're both at the bottom of the content tree for that section but one is still showing 2nd in preview (and on website)..despite compacting.

              god knows why.
I presume there's somewhere in the database that dictates the order too?
Don't want to drag them around too much as there's a 99.9% chance of data loss, if I do!!

I never got round this problem either.
I just shift and hold the lot of sections that need to go at the top and drag them all back to the top of the section again.
Trouble is one of these days something is going to get lost so I know there is a problem that needs sorting.

They have an index number which dictates the order in which they exist, something screwed on that in the database possibly?

Quite possibly. The database has had something wrong with it permanently since it was upgraded! There's always something wrong!
Will look in access later to see if I can sort the order. Thanks

Would be nice if we did not have to dabble in Access yet again though - gives us more opportunity for errors - wonder if this is sorted in 9.0.4? (chuckle)

                        still forgot to do this!
will report back tomorrow, when I've dug around in the DB

I'm digging this back up because this is still happening on 9.0.5
I've attached a screenshot so you can see what I mean.
It seems to always add a new section in second (unless I add it in first in which case it appears first) no matter where I put it in the content tree.

                          Compacting doesn't help.

I can change the sequence in the database but it's messy and fiddly when I have nearly 1000 sections and the sections that needs to appear around it also then need renumbering too. It's unnecessarily time consuming.
